■53 pairs of soccer shoes to children in Viqueque Youth center (2010/11/02)

On 20 October 2010, Ms. Saeko Terada, President of KnK, directly delivered 53 pairs of soccer shoes that were donated by Mitsubishi Yowa foundation, to children who have been participating in sports course held in Viqueque youth center, which is one of youth centers that KnK is supporting in Timor Leste now.

When Ms. Terada visited Viqueque youth center in May 2010, children made request to her that they needed some pairs of soccer shoes and their wish came true finally.

A lot of outdoors sports activities such as football and Badminton are lively conducted every day in Viqueque youth center, which is located in rural mountainous area and over 5-hour drive from capital city Dili. While a lot of children are joining these activities, most of them are in danger of getting injury because they are playing on barefoot in an athletic field where is not good enough condition. However, once they start to wear soccer shoes, they will be able to enjoy playing football much better than before.

On the day of visit of Ms. Terada and Mr.Dominique, Director of KnK, children in Viqueque youth center welcomed them from the bottom of their heart; they sang a various kinds of song for them. It was very impressive that they sang loudly and enjoyably. Children seemed happily when they played lottery for the first time in order to choose each soccer shoes fairly. Soon after they found out their shoes, most of them tried their shoes on and kept them around their arms carefully later. After delivering all 53 pairs of shoes, children showed their gratitude by giving some fresh coconuts to Ms. Terada and Mr. Dominique.

Through the distribution of soccer shoes, a lot of children’s smile was seen. We do hope that children will learn the importance of working well with others and following the rules through sports activities in Viqueque youth center and that will contribute to mutual understanding among youth. Your support is highly appreciated so that KnK will be able to continue to support Viqueque youth center and three other youth centers in Timor Leste. Thank you for your understanding.
