■Dear Friends,Dear Children,Dear Partners,
And Dear Members and Supporters, (2011/03/16)

Tokyo, Wednesday 16 March, 2011

Dear Friends,
Dear Children,
Dear Partners,
And Dear Members and Supporters,

Hours after hours, we are receiving messages of sympathies and compassion from all over the world.
From the deepest of our hearts, thank you !
We are sure that all these messages will reach out to our Japanese fellowship suffering today, somewhere in the north of the country.

As a Japanese association, KnK Japan will do all we can do to bring support to the affected people in the devasted area, especially to children and youth.

After the meetings with the team and the meeting with our partner “Japan Platform” today, here is our first frame for our intervention.

We shall coordinate with all legal authorities, governmental and local, police, local communities, universities, schools and so on.
We shall strictly work within the frame and security regulations proposed by such authorities.

We are now planning a 3 phases project:

A) First Phase; distribution and exploratory survey, from now for 3 weeks.

B) Second Phase; Psycho-social care, protection of children and specialized distributions, in 5 to 6 locations, in Ibaraki and south Fukushima, and the northern part of Iwate, for 3 to 6 months,

C) Third Phase; Psycho-social care in implemented temporary shelters in these same locations, for 1 to 3 years.

First Phase, starting today for the following 3 weeks
Distribution and exploratory survey

  1. We are now on the process to purchase a small truck, and to rent a 2-ton truck.
  2. Hopefully before the end of this week, Friday 18 or Saturday 19 March, we shall go to the south part of the affected area up to Hitachi, Takahagi, Kita-Ibaraki, Iwaki.
  3. From Tokyo we shall bring essential items such as blankets, water, lamps and so on.These items will be collected from or through:
    - Japan Platform,
    - Shimo Ochiai neighbors (where our office is located),
    - Other associations, such as Sanyukai(山友会) and local associations
    - Private contributions from friends.
  4. We shall schedule a second trip with hopefully more essential materials, up to 2 tons, for delivery and survey in the north part of Iwate Pref. That trip is now scheduled starting from 25th March.
  5. In the areas mentioned above, we shall take the first contacts with 5 to 6 communities to establish a long term support.

Second Phase, starting April for 3 to 6 months,
Psycho-social care, protection of children and specific distribution to 5 to 6 Communities

  1. We shall organize the rotation for all volunteers who wish to work with KnK Japan. These volunteers will be chosen in the first priority from the communities mentioned above and from the affected Prefectures. Secondly all other volunteers who wish to help and join us. These volunteers will work under our control, in teams of 2 to 4 people for each location, and for clearly identified period (from 1 week to 1 month),
  2. Specific distribution: educational materials, books, games and basic materials for children and youth, including supplementery food such as vitamins, snacks, etc.
  3. Specific assistance will be provided depending on needs and assessment that is made during the first Phase.

Third Phase
