“Shaping Futures” in Cambodia (2013/06/07)

The Shaping Futures project started in 2008 and utilizes Japan’s advanced hairdressing techniques to contribute to society.  The eighth session of the project took place in Battambang, Cambodia from June 1st to 9th.  Responding to an appeal from Tokyo Schwarzkopf Professional of Henkel Japan Ltd., Kazuhito Suda from Saitama, Kana Ueda from Aichi, and Yuta Maruyama from Kanagawa participated in the session as trainers.  In the nine-day program, they trained sixteen adolescents from the surrounding communities with advanced hairdressing techniques from Japan, including hair cutting and theories.  The ninth session is scheduled from June 29th to July 7th, 2013.

Since the project launched in 2008, a total of thirteen experienced hairdressers from Japan, including salon owners and store managers, volunteered to teach a total of 116 Cambodian adolescents hairdressing skills.  A number of participants have started to take steps toward fulfilling their dreams: sixteen started small beauty salons, twelve were employed as hairstylists, and two got positions as hairdressing trainers.

We express our sincere gratitude to Tokyo Schwarzkopf Professional of Henkel Japan Ltd. and the volunteer trainers.
