■Starting Business for Success (2011/02/10)

24-year-old Rotana started studying accounting at university in Phnom Penh from the House of Youth in Battambang in September 2008. In her first and second years, she worked part-time in the accounting section of a company.

Hard-working, Rotana started a printing company in Phnom Penh in September 2010. The company is called “We Are the Child’s Team of CCASVA and KnK Center”. (CCASVA is an NGO in Phnom Penh.) This name conveys Rotana’s appreciation for the support she received from the NGOs.

This company offers such services as the printing of wedding invitation cards and business cards as well as the creation of banners. Besides Rotana, a few part-time workers, including a young KnK graduate, work at the company.

18-year-old Sophea is one of Rotana’s part-time workers. Sophea lived at the House of Youth until last November. Now she is back home in Phnom Penh to care for her sick mother. Popular and respected at KnK, Sophea was asked by Rotana to help her at the company. Now she supplements the family income by working part-time while going to high school.

When we visited the company, Sophea was working hard scanning images with a printer and cautiously using a cutting machine to cut paper.

It is wonderful to see KnK graduates grow up strong and well as members of society. We will continue our support activities to help children leaving KnK live independent lives.
